My name is Marianna Spivak, and I am your candidate for the 2021-2022 Director of Food and Wine Sciences. I am 21 years old and am my first year of the Winery and Viticulture Technician program. I am also a recent graduate of the Baking and Pastry Arts program. I decided to run for this position to help be the voice of the students of CFWI in these challenging times as we adjust to learning during a global pandemic. It has been very challenging from being in a hands-on environment and adjusting to an online learning environment, and I want to be able to take part in making the transition easier and being their voice to make sure their concerns are heard.
If I am elected Director of Food and Wine Sciences, I will make it my priority to listen to the concerns of all the students and address them to make a difference. I will do everything in my power to try to come to a resolution that will make the students happy. I will be the voice for those who feel like they do not have one, since everyone’s voice should be heard. As a student here in the college the rights of every student are important, and I will advocate for any student of CFWI who feels like their rights are being infringed upon.
As well if I am elected for this position, I will do my best to work with the NCSAC and the College to try to host events that can showcase talents of the students of CFWI. Whether it is a Brewery/Winery/Distillery battle royal, to an innovations of the culinary world showcase, and even a Sweet and Savoury culinary experience, the students in CFWI have many talents and have learned many great techniques that deserve to be shared with the rest of the College and the community and I will be your advocate for that. After the stressful year we all have endured, it is time to give the students a chance to safely show off everything they have learned in a fun and exciting environment.
